A home for the curious and pleasure-obsessed, ours is a culture rooted in old-world traditions, bound by the limits of human scale, guided by family, and ignited by a pioneering spirit.

Live close to nature, make beautiful things from the land, find enjoyment, and choose adventure. While much has changed since Clos du Val was founded in 1972, these principles guide us and we hope they resonate with you.

Our wines are an expression of our culture. We pursue a harmony that entices all the senses, for the rewards of a great bottle go beyond its bouquet and finish. Vibrant and elegant wines enrich your meals, your conversations, and your lives.

A kiss of luck and a notion of what to seek led us to the cool and rugged Stags Leap District. Many years ago, a young French winemaker rolled down the window of a borrowed Dodge Charger and held out his hand. Heading south through a Napa Valley that looked very different from today's, he entered a sheltered pass and felt the air suddenly grow cold. After two years and four continents, winemaker Bernard Portet's search was over, and the Goelet family's adventure was about to begin.

Agriculture is at the heart of who we are, not just what we do, and it’s the last seven letters of that word that matter most. New generations don’t just inherit land, they inherit a culture.

It’s my great joy and humble privilege to continue drawing that trajectory out into the future, and I’m excited to have you with us for the journey.
