See ya, Suckers!

It feels like just yesterday that our vines were putting out their first growth of the season, but our vineyards have already been transformed by an influx of bright green of new shoots and leaves.

Around this time of year, it’s important that the vines undergo “suckering,” or the removal of extra shoots. This ensures that water and nutrients are going where we need them most – to the grapes!

We were lucky enough to get cool temperatures and some rain this week, but once it’s a little less wet in the Napa Valley, our team will be tending to each vine by hand, removing suckers and checking on our early spring growth.

This week our viticulturist, Ryan Decker, showed us how & why we trim those pesky suckers in today’s update. Stay tuned for more updates next week!
